International success at Olympic Winter Games

Added November 20th, 2010

Working within extremely tight timeframes, complex security procedures and detailed master delivery schedules, EFM transported essential broadcasting, media and catering equipment to Canada in time for the start of the Winter Olympic Games in February 2010.

Prior to the start of the Games, EFM shipped fifteen containers of catering equipment and portable kitchens by sea freight to the Athletes Villages in Vancouver and Whistler, catering for almost 3,000 athletes, coaches and officials.

We transported further large shipments of broadcasting and media equipment from the UK via sea and air freight, and up from the USA, using air and truck movements. This equipment had to be delivered to several of the Olympic Rights Holding Broadcasters and official media and photographic agencies. This equipment was sent to the Main Press Centre and International Broadcasting Centre in Vancouver, as well as various locations in Whistler, including the Mountain Broadcast Centre, and Haus Austria.

In the lead up to the Opening Ceremony and as the Games continued, EFM handled a number of urgent delivery requests of equipment, including replacement parts and extra items required on-site by crews. These last-minute shipments needed to be moved as quickly as possible and were delivered to the specified sites within a few hours of the flights landing at Vancouver Airport. Over at the Broadcasting Centre in Whistler – a large two-storey temporary tent structure, access restrictions were particularly challenging when delivering to the second floor.  Road access along the side of the venue was too small for most trucks, so the team arranged a forklift with a platform to lift over 15 tons of broadcasting equipment in flight cases from ground level into the air and safely up to the studios on the second floor.

Following the Winter Olympics EFM was entrusted to move the equipment back to the UK or straight on to other locations, including South Africa for the FIFA World Cup.
