FIFA World Cup 2010

Added November 20th, 2010

EFM played an integral role in the freighting of key infrastructure for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa. Transporting over 100 tons of airfreight into and out of various South African World Cup Venues from around the world, and handling over 50 container movements by sea freight, EFM shipped from locations including the UK, France, Germany, USA, Belgium, Singapore, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and even St Kitts!

As the world’s media spotlight turned firmly from Olympics to Football, EFM were also responsible for ensuring the safe and timely transfer of broadcasting equipment, cameras, and satellite uplink equipment directly from their previous location at the Winter Olympics in Canada, by sea freight into International Broadcasting Centres and media locations in Cape Town and Johannesburg. With EFM representatives on site at the IBCs in Canada and South Africa, we were well-placed to ensure all operations went to plan.

Strike action across the Ports and Rail Terminals in South Africa was one of the main challenges to the World Cup organisers and particularly the logistics infrastructure, beginning just as containers of equipment were arriving by sea at a critical time.   As a result of consistently monitoring all news and developments in the area, the EFM team were able to jump ahead of our competition and divert our clients’ containers into other Ports, moving containers quickly by road within South Africa, to meet urgent on-site deadlines at Venues, without delay.

Working with key sponsors and other stakeholders, EFM transported over five tons of marketing and promotional materials, uniforms and other collateral for sponsors such as McDonalds, Sony and Anheuser-Busch, to name a few.

In addition to broadcast and media equipment, EFM transported tons of power cable, video and projection equipment, and lighting and audio supplies for the production of the official Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as the hugely successful FIFA World Cup™ Kick-Off Celebration Concert, where the likes of Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, and Shakira performed.

As the final whistle blew in Soccer City, EFM were already on the move again with equipment required urgently in Delhi and Singapore for the Youth Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
